Tried with a cheap 3 mm HSS 4-flute end-mill found in my drawer, 600 mm/min @ 13.000 rpm, 0.2 mm DOC.
Results in the attached photo.

The "smudges" you see are not due the milling process, but from manually filing away the bridges.

If you aren't breaking endmills you really don't know how close you are to optimum.  I took over a machining job once that I thought was going way to slow and the previous operator had already worn out 3 endmills.  I quickly broke three myself, but the fourth lasted the rest of the job and I cut nearly 2 days off the machining time!  Another job with an 1/8" endmill started at 4 minutes per part and I had 300 to do.  Broke 3 endmills and got the time down to 53 seconds, which included removing the parts from packaging.  The cool part was that at $10 per part I made $600 an hour on a mill I paid $3000 for, and they had me do another 400!

Every time the cutting edge passed through the material it wears a little.  Slow feed with lots of rubbing wears out the end mill way faster.
