Sorry.  Again, that was a defective file I'd just TRIED to see the results.

I got it solved, and it does work with a proper hemisphere, now.

duh!  I wasted four FREAKIN' hours looking at this thing, and not figuring it out until just now.

Yeah... it does. 

FWIW... I NEVER have the stock surface anywhere but zero (except on a very few strange pieces that must work 'up' positively from a base).  That latter is probably 1% of all my work.

But somehow... typo, inattention, something... I ended up with the stock surface a +0.125", and NEVER noticed it.  No wonder the 3D waterline didn't work as expected!

And, to add embarrassment to injury, I didn't notice it until after I'd already posted a help request!
