Hello,

I am a happy cambam user (CamBam.CAD : 0.9.5729.19316)

Everynow and then, the various CAD tools i use produce lines that aren't joined. That is typically the case for FreeCAD 2D projections.

In that case, i just CTRL+A everything in cambam, then CTRL+J the lines/polylines/whatever, enter 0.1 as tolerance and tadaaaaaa... i ended with a single closed polyline that i can later profile (cut basically).

Instead of 3D print a 12 tooth gear -- because basically i want it more precise and more durable -- i want to cnc mill it in delrin plastics for once.

So i did as usual, extracted my FreeCAD 2D plan as dxf, open it in cambam, select everything...
but unfortunately, this time i end with several "polyline", and -- i guess -- therefore i end up with an unusable profile output :

From freecad, I tried to output as svg, then open in Inkscape, then "Combine" (CTRL+K) all lines, then save as DXF => to no avail, same problem

any idea anyone ?

Did you took the time and research this forum on how to proceed with open polylines?
This should help you.

Several issues.

1) outline consists of splines.  Convert to polylines.

2) Every resulting polyline has duplicate segments.  Explode and remove overlaps.

3) Join.

Attached file is version 1

you guys saved the day.
I did searched before posting but apprently not on the right keywords.

the pdf to "clean" dxf for machining, and in particular the polyline overlapping each other is rather nasty.

i copy/paste the pdf guide here for googlers =>  http://www.cambam.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1624.0;attach=4171

And no i didn't know cambam has a gear generator but it turns out that i want to build my own gearbox for fun and precisely place them so bottom line is i prefer to stay with what i have for now

problem solved.

thanks.

If you don't where you are going you won't know when you get there. It's like Deja Vu all over again.
