 I saw on the internet that there was a plugin or script for doing hypocycloidal gears but don't see it here.
It mentioned that it was made by a member. Anybody have a copy?

I think he might confuse that with "trochiodal milling", which sounds all "mathematical", and stuff.

I think maybe he is referring to the cycloidal gears used in watchmaking.
I am not aware of any script to make them and as far as I know no one really uses purely cycloidal gearing, but modify it to their taste.
The advantage of cyclodal gearing is that pinions can have vary small leaf numbers and still be manufacturable.
The modified cycloidal definitions try to take that feature of cycloidal gearing and add some of the advantages of involute gears to that.
Some of the standard modified cycloidal definitions can be found in the NIHS norms.

Here it is... (a 'Hypocycloid generator' option should appear in the Plugins menu).

I will put together some instructions, but I have attached a screenshot of some settings to get a working gear.

Be sure to click the Animate button... that's the best bit!  Grin

Here are some gearboxes I made as a proof of concept.

The first one is a 10:1 (ie 10 turns of the crank = 1 turn of the arrow).
The output turns in the opposite direction of the input.
This one is a single stage... the crank turns an eccentric, which rolls the gear around the pins
(semi circular teeth machined into the gear case).
The output is then transmitted via holes in the gear to a disc with pins that sit in these holes.
If you tick the 'Output layer' option in the plugin and animate hopefully that makes sense.

The second one is a 100:1 (ie 100 turns of the crank = 1 turn of the arrow).
The output turns in the same direction of the input.
This one is 2 stage... A 10 tooth gear rolls around 11 pins like the 10 turn gear.
A second 9 tooth gear is fixed to the first.  This one rolls around 10 pins machined into a disk which forms the output.
I find it quite amazing how compact the 100:1 gearbox is.
I always thought these would make a good winch (you can't backdrive hypocycloidal gearboxes).

I have attached the CamBam file used to machine both of these gearboxes... it's a bit of a mess though!  Shocked
Both gearboxes were made from 4mm (clear) and 5mm (orange) acrylic.

 I d/led the plugin and copied it to the plugin directory. I also copied the settings from your screen shot but am getting a different results. Can you explain what I am doing wrong? Here is the screenshot.

Yes, you must zoom out (mouse wheel or +- on numpad or alt + double click in the view, or menu View/zoom to fit ...)

The settings windows can stay opened.
